Waiting on a Promise

Updated: Jul 6, 2022

God has made so many promises to me about how He is going to use me, my writing, my music, and my spoken words. In hope, I shall believe and so it will come to pass because it has been said and promised to me, just as Abraham was promised a son after such old age and promised he would be father of many nations.

Romans 4:18-20 reads,

“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him. ‘So shall your offspring be.’ Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead- since he was about a hundred years old- and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”

YES, LORD! There is nothing you can’t do. You brought life to Sarah’s barren womb because you promised it and Abraham had faith. Even though Abraham was old and worn, you made him the father of all nations because you promised it and Abraham had faith in you. What a powerful testimony. You can do whatever you want, Lord.  In my life, with my writing, I must continue to have faith that just as you have promised, you are not done with me. You are covering me and every difficult situation. You are growing me, and you are going to use me. My name will be known because of Your Name. You have promised me that, and I will have faith like Abraham.

A good friend of mine is having trouble with a rebellious child. She’s worn out and tried everything she can to be a good, protective parent but no amount of reason seems to draw her daughter back to Jesus. But, even in that mother’s life, you have commanded her to train up her child in the way she should go. Then you have promised her when she is old, she will not depart from the way she has been taught (Proverbs 22:6). If that is true, and your promises always are, then you will bring her daughter back to you. You will guide that daughter’s path; you will draw her near. You will be the ultimate parent both for the mother and the daughter. You will fill in all the gaps where the mother is not sufficient. It will come to pass, and it will be credited to her as righteousness. For Christ’s righteousness will be credited to believers as their own because of their trust in Him (Romans 3:22-24).

“This is why ‘it was credited to him (that is Abraham) as righteousness.’ The words ‘it was credited to him’ were written not for him alone, but also for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification” (Romans 4:22-25). Hallelujah! Praise His Name! As Abraham was justified because he believed in a God who brought life from the dead, so we will be justified by believing “in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead” (Romans 10:9).

With that being said, He will fulfill every promise made to any of us. He has promised victory and vindication for every believer- individual victory for all of us in the end. If that is true, then our lives should reflect that in the way we live because we are given a promise which will be upheld and then credited to us as righteousness. How beautiful are His Word and promises? What promises are you waiting on to be fulfilled? Do you have faith like Abraham? Faith in Christ produces peace with God because He will do what He says He will. And peace with God means having a restful soul and being in a state of unthreatened well-being. Walk and live by that daily (Psalm 116:7).
